Jorge Luis Polanco, nicknamed "Chulo," is a 32-year-old switch-hitting second baseman from San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, born on July 5, 1993. Standing 6 feet tall and weighing 208 pounds, he signed as an international free agent with the Minnesota Twins in 2009 and made his MLB debut on June 26, 2014.[1][2][4] Polanco spent his first decade with the Twins, establishing himself as a versatile infielder capable of playing second base and shortstop. He reached the playoffs four times, earned an AL All-Star selection in 2019, and hit for the cycle on April 5 that year against the Philadelphia Phillies, going 5-for-5. Other honors include the 2021 MLBPAA Twins Heart and Hustle Award, MiLB Organization All-Star nods in 2013-2014, and AL Player of the Week on April 27, 2025, with the Mariners.[1][3] Traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2024, Polanco rebounded from a disappointing .213 average and knee injury that year by signing a one-year deal. In the 2025 regular season, he slashed .265/.326/.495 with 26 home runs, 78 RBIs, and 30 doubles over 138 games, tying for a Mariners record with doubles in seven straight games from September 8-14 and posting a .329/.380/.634 line that month to fuel playoff contention.[2][3][4][5] His postseason heroics elevated his current relevance: in October 2025, the 32-year-old delivered game-winning RBIs in two straight Mariners playoff wins, including a 15th-inning walk-off single, joining Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez as the only players in franchise history to achieve this. This propelled Seattle to the AL Championship Series for the first time in 24 years, marking Polanco's deepest playoff run.[5] Career totals through 2025 include a .263-.269 average, 1,063 hits, 154 home runs, and 570 RBIs over 4,044 at-bats, with 61 stolen bases and a .772 OPS.[1][3]
